The MADE SAFE® Toxicant Database & Screening Process
Our unique and comprehensive proprietary database was constructed for the express purpose of screening products to determine that contained ingredients are not known or suspected to cause human health harm. We have reviewed and scrutinized well-recognized, scientifically authoritative lists from organizations and government agencies around the world* in order to ensure that our collective list is both accurate and complete.
Simply put, we do not allow known behavioral toxins, carcinogens, developmental toxins, endocrine disruptors, fire retardants, GMOs, heavy metals, neurotoxins, high risk pesticides, reproductive toxins, toxic solvents or harmful VOCs to be included in products that we certify.
With over 85,000 chemicals registered to the EPA that are potentially available for use today, Made Safe doesn’t just prohibit the chemicals on “red lists;” we go beyond to scrutinize materials and ingredients using modeling, predictive analysis and available science to see if there is concern for bioaccumulation (builds up in our bodies), persistence (builds up in the environment), and for aquatic toxicity.
We work with respected scientists and experts to screen ingredients based on the most current available science so that we can begin to close data gaps. When we discover that an ingredient, synthetic, chemical or material is likely to or will cause harm, we exercise the Precautionary Principle and add that ingredient to our Toxicant Database. Our database is constantly evolving and becomes a smarter and more informed tool over time. We call this the MADE SAFE Screening Process.
Once a product has passed the MADE SAFE Screen for each and every ingredient in the item, the product can then graduate to our gold standard MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certified™ process. This detailed hands-on laboratory inspection puts every ingredient – in totality – under a microscope in order to determine that there’s nothing of harm in the final product, whether by accidental contamination, new molecular structure via chemical interaction, etc. This is the future of safe and sustainable product manufacturing.
We are investing in future generations by building a healthier future through MADE SAFE and MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certified products.
Many brands we work with come to us seeking certification under our MADE SAFE or MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certified seals. However, some brands also want to work with us during their research & development process to formulate or reformulate safe products. Other companies, brands or retailers simply want access to our process and database in order to construct and inform their internal buying or sourcing policies.
No matter what your business is, we can work with you to leverage our Toxicant Database for your purposes.
It is our mission to make locating, manufacturing and purchasing nontoxic products easy.
