We take immense pride in our MADE SAFE® certification because it embodies our unwavering commitment to our customers' safety and our planet's well-being. This certification is not just a label; it’s a testament to the diligent sourcing behind every ingredient in TickWise, which ensures that our product is entirely free of harmful chemicals. Our primary mission is to help protect families from the dangers of tick-borne illnesses, mosquito-borne diseases, and other insect bites, all while providing peace of mind with a clean, safe product. Why is it important to have third-party validation for your products?
With our entomology and environmental science backgrounds, we developed TickWise with a deep commitment to using clean, safe ingredients. While we meticulously crafted our product, prioritizing safety and ecological responsibility, it’s crucial to have third-party validation to confirm that our efforts meet the highest standards. This external validation reinforces our commitment to our customers and the planet and builds trust, ensuring that our products deliver the safety and effectiveness that families deserve.
Why did you start your company?
Our journey began with personal battles against Lyme disease, which made creating a safe and effective insect repellent necessary for us to enjoy the outdoors. LJ, our founder, faced the challenge of not being able to use traditional insect repellents due to their harmful chemicals like DEET. With no other option, she was determined to make her own. What started as a mission to protect our families from ticks and mosquitoes has become a commitment to help keep all families safe with a clean product that truly works.
Why are your products different from other, more conventional, products in the space?
Unfortunately, many products in our space are labeled as ‘safe’ or ‘natural,’ misleading customers into believing they are purchasing something clean. In reality, these products often contain harmful chemicals, fail to adhere to EPA guidelines, and rarely hold certifications like MADE SAFE®. This not only undermines efforts to combat tick-borne and mosquito-borne diseases but also puts families at risk with ineffective and potentially harmful solutions. TickWise stands apart from other insect repellents because it contains safe, clean ingredients, is MADE SAFE® certified, and has been proven effective against ticks and mosquitoes. We’re committed to offering a product that families can trust to protect their health and well-being.
What’s the one thing you would never do as a maker of better products?
We will never compromise on the quality and safety of the ingredients we use in TickWise, nor on our transparency with our customers. We believe in being an open book because the trust our community and customers place in us is critical to our mission. That trust is something we value deeply and will never take for granted.
What do you wish shoppers thought about more, and why?
We hope more shoppers take the time to read and understand the ingredients in their products. If harmful products weren’t purchased, businesses would be compelled to make more ethical decisions, prioritize the planet, and put customer safety first. Our purchasing decisions should reflect our values and goals if we want better products, more options, a healthier planet, and a healthier future. Conscious consumerism is key to driving positive change in the marketplace.

What have you done to make your life healthier (i.e., do you meditate daily, practice mindfulness, yoga, walk, etc.), and why?
We are enthusiastic gardeners. Gardening allows us to connect with nature while moving our bodies, soak up fresh air and vitamin D, and lower stress levels. It’s a practice that enriches our mental and physical health while also benefiting the environment. By growing plants for pollinators, creating diverse habitats, and reducing pollutants in the air, water, and soil, we’ve found that gardening is a fulfilling way to give back to Mother Earth. We love our gardens, and they love us back!
