MADE WISE Certified by MADEWORKS
MADE WISE – Certified by MADEWORKS™ is a new certification designed to eliminate over 15,000 harmful chemicals from consumer goods, driving transparency and accelerating the shift to safer, more sustainable production. Unlike vague “clean” or “green” claims, MADE WISE sets a science-based standard that exceeds both US and EU regulations and requires full ingredient transparency. The program launches with a focus on cosmetics, personal care, formulated pet products, and supplements.
By adopting the MADE WISE standard, companies build trust in a crowded marketplace. When a product is MADE WISE certified, it is intentionally prohibiting the worst known pollutants such as PFAS, plasticizing chemicals, high-risk pesticides and more. Companies also voluntarily avoid the problem with regrettable substitutions and ensure transparency from production to final product.
Participation helps establish a level playing field by creating a common baseline that any company producing clean, green, or eco products should meet. The more companies refusing the substances on the MADE Banned List™, the more likely we are to see meaningful legislative shifts. Participation in MADE WISE is a bold step toward transforming how products are made—for a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.

Achieving MADE WISE compliance requires full ingredient transparency—a critical first step toward cleaner products or advancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. This process also helps companies identify and eliminate harmful substances while providing clear documentation that supports internal and external transparency.

What’s on the MADE Banned List™
MADE WISE restricts or bans over 15,000 harmful substances, including:
- Toxic antibacterials and antimicrobials
- Harmful artificial colors and dyes
- Bisphenols
- Carcinogens
- Endocrine disruptors
- Developmental and reproductive toxicants
- Neurotoxicants
- Formaldehyde releasers
- Heavy metals
- High-risk pesticides
- PCBs
- PFAS
- Paraffin oil, paraffin wax, petrolatum, and liquid paraffinum ingredients
- Parabens
- Phthalates
- Harmful UV blockers and filters
- Harmful VOCs

How the Process Works
- Company signs participation agreement
- Company submits MADE WISE screening fee
- Company provides full ingredient information
- Company undergoes screening and submits required documentation
- Company receives either a Statement of Certification or Statement of Improvement based on screening results
- If compliant, certification is granted after payment of the annual licensing fee
- If not yet compliant, the company receives a detailed improvement report and may re-submit after making necessary changes
