MADEWORKS™ is a services platform that certifies products using ecosystem science and rigorous screening to drive change in the marketplace. We use data to give companies meaningful insights into substance safety and sustainability, helping them make better, safer choices.

Whether a company needs to reformulate a product to eliminate certain chemicals, benchmark its progress over time, or seek guidance on developing safer products, MADEWORKS has a program offering support.

MADE SAFE Certification

MADE SAFE®, our original certification program, is the only certification uncompromising in its commitment to both human and ecosystem health, with a rigorous, science-based process that evaluates every known ingredient and input for safety. MADE SAFE requires full manufacturer transparency, including disclosure of intentionally added substances and detailed insight into the production process, things that never make it onto labels. Products must provide complete transparency, avoid more than 15,000 harmful chemicals and then pass the comprehensive Ecosystem Approach screening, which analyzes potential sources of pollution, as well as harmful impacts on soil, sediment, air, water, human, aquatic and/or terrestrial life. When a product is MADE SAFE, it means it is Made With Safe Ingredients®.

MADE WISE Certification 

MADE WISE – Certified by MADEWORKS™ is a new certification that helps to eliminate over 15,000 harmful chemicals from consumer goods, driving transparency and accelerating the shift to safer, more sustainable production. Unlike vague “clean” or “green” claims, MADE WISE sets a science-based standard that exceeds US and EU regulations and requires full ingredient transparency, beginning with the categories of cosmetics, personal care, formulated pet products, and supplements. By adopting MADE WISE, companies build trust in a crowded marketplace. When a product is MADE WISE certified, it is intentionally prohibiting the worst known pollutants such as PFAS, plasticizing chemicals, high-risk pesticides and more.

Transformation Partners by MADEWORKS is a consulting program designed to help companies as they transform products and ingredients for a safer and more sustainable marketplace. The Transformation Partners program provides in-depth, iterative, and interactive ingredient improvement reviews and guidance. Pregnancy Approved by MADEWORKS is a supplemental review option for companies that have already achieved MADE SAFE Certification. The Pregnancy Approved program requires an additional layer of review in order to confirm that products do not contain added ingredients that are known or suspected to be harmful to pregnant individuals or fetal development. The Pregnancy Approved program is not a certification program, but offers companies a review-backed use of the specific statement. The review results are provided in a detailed report and a Statement of Compliance letter is provided for any suitable products.
