Pura Stainless was conceived with a simple vision: to provide the safest and most adaptable juvenile feeding and adult hydration solutions to consumers around the world. Parents “get it” – there is no place for plastic in anybody’s mouth, durable repurposed products are infinitely better for our environment and much more cost-effective than buying new bottles every couple of months.

Can you tell us about your company, Pura Stainless?

We design and manufacture premium baby bottles, sippy cups, straw cups, sport bottles, and lunch containers using only two safe materials: food-grade stainless steel and medical-grade, platinum silicone. We offer both standard and insulated products. We do not incorporate plastic or lead whatsoever in our products.

What inspired you to start this business?

When our children were young, we were frustrated when we could not find any bottles or sippy cups without plastic parts. We decided to use our previous experience in manufacturing, marketing, and business management to create bottles that met our family’s needs and satisfied our desire for products made with better materials and to a higher standard.

Can you share what your journey has been like as a founder of Pura?

Pura has been immensely rewarding to me, both creatively and professionally. We committed to growing Pura "organically," meaning that we have not taken outside investments, and the products need to be well received for us to grow. When companies try to maximize profits and satisfy outside investment, cutting corners and using cheaper materials becomes necessary. In our case, we have always been committed to the quality of the materials and usefulness of our designs. We only answer to ourselves and our customers, and both have high standards!

What makes your products stand out from the others on the market?

We have designed our stainless steel line so that every bottle works with every top. This means a baby bottle can be repurposed as a sippy, straw, or junior sport bottle. Every bottle will be useful and cherished for years and years of use.

Our uniqueness extends beyond the design of our products to the way we produce them. We take pride in the details that many of our customers may not realize, but benefit from nonetheless. For instance, we never use any plastic parts, our silicone surpasses all European Union regulations (which are much stricter than US regulations), and MADE SAFE screens all our products to be free of toxins that could harm us or our planet.

Why was achieving MADE SAFE certification important to you, and what has your process been like to achieve MADE SAFE certification?

We are parents who make bottles for children. When BPA was banned, scientific studies showed that BPA was just one of many chemicals in plastic that cause harm. I contacted several third-party testing labs and asked if they could develop tests to check for any chemicals that caused estrogenic activity beyond those regulated in the US. They said they could, but they refused to because other companies were only interested in knowing they met US regulations. The testing labs would not develop the test for our company alone. Shortly after this, I met Amy Ziff, founder of MADE SAFE, who was offering exactly what I had been asking for!

What do you hope to see in the future for Pura Stainless?

We would like to continue expanding our product range and providing our customers with more safe, plastic-free products.

What daily consumer habits do you practice to maintain a safe and healthy lifestyle?

I try to eat as many “real” organic foods as possible—foods that have not been processed and have never been in a plastic bag. For days when this doesn’t happen as much as I’d like, I supplement with high-quality fresh or powdered green juice. I ALWAYS have reusable cloth bags stashed in my car and purse.

What recommendations do you have for parents who want to protect their kids?

I am hesitant to offer advice here. As I know, parents are offered way too much advice. I’ll simply say, trust your instincts. When you have the capacity and desire, learn more from trusted sources that rely on science, like MADE SAFE!

What ingredients do you refuse to use in your products, and why?

Plastic. Every year, there is more information on other ways plastics are killing us and our planet.

Do you have any favorite MADE SAFE certified products?

I LOVE Annmarie Skin Care under-eye cream. It smells lovely and works wonders to assuage the look of tired eyes!
