Feminine washes are made for some of the most absorptive and sensitive skin on women’s bodies. So you’d think ingredients used in them would be highly regulated and monitored for safety, right?
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. According to Women’s Voices for the Earth, many conventional washes contain FDA-restricted dyes like FD&C Red No. 33 and Ext Violet #2, which are not allowed for products that come into contact with mucous membranes, and Yellow #5, which requires a safety warning about allergic reactions. The FDA states that these ingredients are authorized for inclusion in products that are for external use only.
But let’s be honest – use of a feminine wash is going to mean some internal contact. So wouldn’t you expect that a product like that would be made with safe ingredients for some of the most absorptive skin on your body?
