Adriel Denae and Jen Auerbach began crafting herbal infusions during their first pregnancies. Their transition to motherhood sparked a new appreciation for the importance of skincare created with safe ingredients. They began making their own skincare products using the traditional craft of oil infusion. Adriel and Jen’s newfound clarity about ingredients and skincare developed into Clary Collection.
Made Safe recently connected with Clary Collection’s founders about why MADE SAFE certification for their All Purpose Balm, Bath + Body Oil, Face Serum, and Renew + Repair Oil was so important.
Made Safe: Why are you excited to work with Made Safe?
Jen and Adriel: We are over the moon to be a part of the Made Safe “family.” As the “natural” and “organic” industry continues booming, it’s hard to feel 100% secure about the safety and purity of a purchase. Many labels and ingredients are misleading. Before we started Clary, we personally used the MADE SAFE seal when doing our own shopping. And now, we hope others will do the same with Clary!
Made Safe: Why are you proud of your MADE SAFE certification?
Jen and Adriel: It’s not a simple and easy process to achieve MADE SAFE certification and we did it! We are proud that not only do we believe in our ingredients, MADE SAFE does too! Plus, third-party validation shows our customers that transparency is a priority to us as a brand and emphasizes that we have nothing to hide.
Made Safe: Why did you start Clary Collection?
Jen and Adriel: Our transition into motherhood sparked many changes in each of us. One was a new awareness of the value of safe skincare products for our families and ourselves. When trying to find safe products for our newborns, we continually came up short. The “organic” market was saturated with claims of purity, but oftentimes products labeled or touted as “clean” still contain irritants and harsh extracts. So, we started making our own products from our kitchens. Our late-night product-making turned into Clary Collection.
Made Safe: Why are your products different from other, more conventional products in the space?
Jen and Adriel: Our process is what makes us different. All Clary products start as a hand-crafted infusion, where flowers and herbs are slowly steeped in warm oil. We learned how to gently transfer the potentially healing qualities of plants to the nourishing oils of avocado, olive, and jojoba. We formulated uncomplicated blends that we believe to be effective.
We found that by adding wildflower beeswax as an emulsifier, these oils could be transformed into a balm that aims to protect. For us and our families, this process resulted in the solutions we’d been seeking for chronic dryness, eczema, irritation, allergic reaction, scrapes, and even bruises. Making our products cultivates a great sense of personal empowerment and creative satisfaction.
Made Safe: What is the one thing you would never ever do as a maker of better products?
Jen and Adriel: We would never use plastic bottles.
Made Safe: What is the one product in your line that you can’t live without, and why?
Jen and Adriel: Our best seller, the All Purpose Balm. I will turn the car around to go home if I forget it. My four-year-old old has his own tin and uses it for his boo boos. I’ve used it on my lips, my breasts during feeding, new tattoos, eczema, dry hands and sunburn. It’s a staple product.
