Have you ever tried a lotion bar? Since we certified Kosmatology lotion bars as MADE SAFE, we’ve been loving trying them out!
First of all, let’s answer the usual question: “What’s a lotion bar?” It’s a concentrated solid moisturizing balm that, in the case of Kosmatology, comes in an applicator a lot like deodorant. Kosmatology lotion bars are made with shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil, and scented with essential oils (and also comes unscented, if you prefer!).
What it doesn’t contain: water. The elimination of water also eliminates the need for harmful preservatives (which tend to irritate already-sensitive skin), including formaldehyde & formaldehyde-releasing ingredients, which are linked to cancer; and parabens, hormone disruptors linked to breast cancer.
Kosmatology lotion bars also don’t contain petroleum-based chemicals common to water-based lotions. Mineral oil, paraffin, and petrolatum are petroleum-derived chemicals that can be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a class of chemicals linked to cancer.
In fact, Kosmatology’s founder Dr. Janis Covey formulated the lotion bar to soothe her daughter’s eczema. Not thrilled with the idea of long-term use of steroid cream on her baby, Janis used her training as a pharmacist to develop this natural option. The shea butter and olive oil moisturize and soothe the skin, cadelilla wax creates a protective barrier, and grapefruit peel oil reduces irritation and prevents infection.
